Q1: Is it for me?

A1: Bacchus is a celebration of wine, music and running. The aim is to have fun and finish, not to be watching the clock. 

 

Q2: What fitness level must I be?

A2: There is no fitness level required at all for Bacchus. Whether you walk or run everyone is welcome to join in the fun. There is no hard cut-off but there is a back marker who starts after the last half marathon wave and will walk the course in roughly 4 hours. The back marker will encourage to keep moving but no one will pull you off the course. If you are worried about your time book into one of the earlier waves to give you more time on the course.


Q3: What is the age limit for Bacchus?

A3: The minimum age for the Half Marathon is 18 yrs.

The minimum age for the 10K is 15 yrs.

There is no age limit for the 2K Fun Run.

Please note if you are under 18 your number will be marked, and you will only be served soft drinks at the event. 


Q4: Are there prizes for the winners?

A4: As Bacchus Wine Half Marathon & 10K are primarily fun runs there will no prizes for those first across the line. However, awards are given to the best fancy dress costumes we see on the day. The competition is judged by our finish line team and will be given on the spot. (Decisions are entirely subjective as this is a light-hearted competition – there will be no discussion on the decisions they make).


Q5: What is included in my entry fee?

A5: Entry fee includes.

10K runners can purchase t-shirts in advance of race day for £12 on our booking platform or by emailing info@209events.com.

- Ticket to the post-race pulled pork party with a plate of complimentary food and drink. Additional food and drink is available to purchase

- Secure Baggage

- Free digital downloads of race photos. We have a team of photographers around the course and at the finish line.


Q6: Can I volunteer?

A6: Yes, you can! If you are interested in volunteering, please email info@209events.com for more information. We have lots of roles available and we would welcome your with open arms.


Q7: When do entries close?

A7: Entries close on Wednesday September 4 at 12:00pm (No entries will be accepted after this time). Entries will close earlier if the event reaches its capacity before September 4.


Q8: When/ how will I receive my race pack?

A8: If you enter the race before August 1, 2024, race packs will be posted to you in early August. If you entered after this time, your race pack will be available to collect on race morning from our registration tent. If you entered before the posting cut-off and have not received your race pack by Wednesday September 4, please let us know by emailing: info@209events.com. and we will arrange a replacement number for collection on race morning. We will not send out replacement numbers.


Q9: Prices

A9: Half Marathon = £67

10K = £43

2K Fun Run = Free (but there are limited places and entries be made through the booking platform).


Q10: What do I do if I can no longer run?

A10: There are several options available to you if you can no longer run. You can defer your entry to the following year, or you can transfer your entry to another runner. We do not offer refunds. To defer or transfer your entry please email transfer@209events.com with your details.

 

Q11: Can I defer my entry?

A11: Yes, deferrals must be made prior to the event up until Wednesday September 4, at 12:00pm. After this date we will not accept deferrals and if you do not run on the day your entry will be void. Please email transfer@209events.com with your details.


Q12: Can I transfer my entry to someone else?

A12: Yes, transfers must be made prior to the event up until Wednesday 6th September at 12:00pm. The original entry owner must email transfer@209events.com to confirm the entry transfer.

You can also get to the vineyard via public transport. Dorking Station and Box Hill & Westhumble Station are both a short walk from the vineyard so perfect to ensure you are not tempted to drink and drive!


Directions from Train Dorking Station


Exit Dorking Station onto Station Approach Road. As you walk towards the A24 (London Road) you will see on the right-hand side of the road an underpass which you will need to take to cross the main road. Exiting the underpass turning right follow London Road all the way up to the roundabout where you will see the entrance to Denbies Wine Estate. (It is less than 1K in distance).

Directions from Box Hill & Westhumble Train Station


Exit Box Hill & Westhumble Station turning right onto Westhumble Street. Follow Westhumble Street until the end where you reach the A24 (London Road). Turn right and follow London Road all the way down until you see the vineyard over the hedges on your right. There is then a small footpath on your right which you can take to lead you into the Wine Estate. (It is less than 2K in distance).
 

Q14: What time must I arrive?

A14: We recommend that you arrive 60-90 minutes before the start of your race to allow time for parking, bag drop and to ensure you have enough time to collect your race pack (if you need it).


Q15: I have spectators coming to watch, how and when do they get in?

A15: Spectators arrive and park in the same place as competitors. As the venue is open on race day you are free to arrive and leave when you please.

 

Q16: Is the car park close to the race village/start?

A16: Yes, the car park is a short walk to the main Denbies Building, Start and Race Village.


Q17: What is the course like?

A17: The course is run through a mix of Denbies vineyard and sections of the North Downs and Pilgrims Way. It is undulating to hilly throughout with one significant climb on the half marathon, most of route is rough trail with some sections of single track, gravel and tarmac.


Q18: When does the main event start?

A18: The first wave of the half marathon starts at 09:30am and then every 10 mins until 10:30am. The first 10K wave will start at 10:40 with further waves at 10.50am and 11am. The 2K will start at 11:05am.

Q19: What facilities will there be on-site?

A19: There will be both temporary toilets and toilets within the main Denbies Estate building. Event parking will site at Denbies and the designated parking areas, please follow our event event parking signs marshal instructions to park on the day. Registered participants will receive their hog roast directly as they finish the race. Other food, drink and refreshments are available within the main Denbies building for spectators and other guests. There will be a managed baggage area. 


Q20: When does the event finish?

A20: The race itself finishes when the last runner comes across the line. The post-race hog roast and music however will continue to be available for a period of time after the race for all to enjoy. The actual timing is subject to change on the day.

Q21: Timings

A21: We recommend that you arrive at least 60-90 mins before the start of the race to ensure that you can park and collect a race number (if you haven't already got it).


Q22: Route Markings (What to look out for)

A22: The route will be clearly marked using signage arrows, marshals, taped areas and mini flags (orange for the half marathon, blue for the 10K).


Q23: Medical Support

A23: There will be a medical team provided by Codeblue Medical Services on-site throughout the main event. They will be in the race village and out on the course. 


Q24: What happens if I must pull out on route?

A24: If you can make it to the next marshal point, please do so where they can advise you of the quickest route back to the race village. If you can’t make it to the next marshal point, please ask another competitor to notify the next marshal of your location where our medical team can be dispatched to you.


Q25: On the course food/drink

A25: There will be 2 wine stations and one additional water station serving the 10K route. There will be 6 wine stations and one water station serving the half marathon. Please note, that the half marathon visits one of the wine stations twice. All wine at the aid stations is provided by Denbies Wine Estate. You will have the chance to sample an array of their range of wines (Please note that Denbies wine is vegan). There will be soft drinks options for those under 18 and water, as always. The food will be an array of small bites that will accompany the wine.

There is ample food, drink and water if you take only one portion at each aid station. Please be considerate of the runners behind you. If you take multiple food and drink portions at any aid station there won't be enough for everyone.


Q26: At what points are the aid stations?

A26: The 10K route will have Wine Stations at the following locations:

Mile 2.2 - Wine Station

Mile 5.8 - Wine Station   


The Half Marathon route will have Wine Stations at the following locations:

Mile 4.5 - Water/High5 products

Q27: What food/drink are available in the Race Village?

A27: There is a pulled pork party (or vegetarian alternative) available for participants after the race. There are also two other options:

- A café inside the Denbies main building with indoor seating. 

- An outside hatch 

Both of the latter offer a variety of food/ drink and refreshments available for purchase.


Q28: Can people come out on the route to see me?

A28: The best place for spectators will most likely be at the start/finish close to Denbies main building, where they can watch runners set off and return and be close to facilities and the musical entertainment at the post-race hog roast.


Q29: Are dogs allowed?

A29: Whilst dogs are allowed on Denbies grounds, there are no dogs allowed to take part in the race and dogs are NOT allowed inside the Denbies main building. 


Q30: Are buggies allowed?

A30: Unfortunately, buggies with children are not allowed to take part in the race, the course and its' terrain are not suitable for buggies (even off-road ones).

Q31: Where can I find the results?

A31: The link to the results will be added to our web page when it is available. Usually within 24 hours of the race.


Q32: Where can I find the photos?

A32: Photos can be found on the 21C Photos website (https://www.21cphotos.com/index.php) to download your free photos, select the ‘get photos’ option, then the event and then you can search using your race number. Then simply download your photos and don’t forget to share them with our hashtag #RunBacchus.


Q33: No drinking and driving!

A33: Being a wine half marathon you are going to be consuming wine samples throughout the race. Please do plan your journeys ahead of the race to avoid illegal drink-driving. Perhaps car shares with your friends/ family or one of your teammates or alternatively, use public transport to get to the event. The Dorking train station is within walking distance of the vineyard.

Exit Denbies Vineyard to the roundabout on London Road (the A24). Turn right and follow the road all the way up until you reach an underpass. Directions from Box Hill & Westhumble Train Station


Exiting Denbies Wine Estate head under the bridge and where the road bends right cross and continue straight on the footpath. Follow the footpath until you reach London Road (the A24). Turn left and then follow alongside the London Road until you reach Westhumble Street. Turn left onto Westhumble Street and follow the road until you reach Box Hill & Westhumble Station on your left. Q34: Is there somewhere I can stay after the event?

A34: Denbies does have its’ own on-site hotel which has limited rooms. There is no camping on-site, but you can find nearby campsites by visiting www.pitchup.com or www.campsites.co.uk. There is also a range of hotels and Bed & Breakfasts in the local area. We do not have any affiliation with any hotels/campsites. It is, therefore, your responsibility to reach out if you require accommodation.
